This is a long but beautiful read, explaining baby Gem's stay in NICU in fantastic detail. It's really worth the read if you have pre - eclampsia or a preemie in NICU . It also sheds light on the miracle of life, the incredible work of the NICU staff and the wow technology available these days. Then read Michelle's moving letter to the NICU nurse . Grab a cup of tea and dig in! FROM A READER: When I found out I was pregnant a fourth time, I was over the moon but at the same time a little nervous as I battled with very high blood pressure. My husband and I had already experienced the NICU as our eldest was born at 34 weeks, our twins were born at 28 weeks and our little girl was also born at 34 weeks. Our twins spent 9 and a half weeks in NICU. Our little girl, the stronger one, got critically ill from a freak blood clot in her small bowel; she was operated on too late, and ended up with necrosis. I held her for over three days and when her organs eventually gave in

Tips to Control Your Blood Sugar During a Workout

Exercise is one of the best ways to manage type 2 diabetes. It makes your cells use insulin better and can help keep your blood sugar in a healthy range. It also helps your cells take in that sugar. But if you take insulin or certain diabetes medications, a workout can send your levels too low, a condition called hypoglycemia. Take these steps to keep it in a safe range. Check It Out Before. Test your sugar prior to a workout. It’s generally OK if it’s between 100 mg/dl and 250 mg/dl. If it’s below 100, you’ll need a snack. If you’re planning a long workout of 2 hours or more, don’t start until your reading is above 100. If it’s higher than 250, check your urine for ketones. They’re produced when your body burns fat instead of sugar for fuel. Don’t exercise if you have them. Your blood sugar could go even higher and cause ketoacidosis, which might lead to a coma or death. During. You won’t need to check during exercise unless you plan to work out for 2 hours or more. Then you shou

Strange places to look for skin cancer

Image
As the most common cancer in the United States, skin cancer attracts lots of media exposure, especially during the sun-kissed summer months. But here's a fact that often escapes notice: Melanoma can surface in some of the most unusual places. Like under your toenails. Or behind your ears. Many of us know that cancerous spots can appear in areas that get direct sun, like the face, arms and neck. But body parts that aren't so visible, or as closely inspected, can also harbor unseen spots that may go undetected and, therefore, escape early intervention. "Under the nails is a very concerning area, especially with the common use of gel manicures," which use a product that hardens by curing under ultraviolet lamps, says Dr. Laura Farrington , Medical Oncologist at our hospital outside Chicago . "The direct exposure of UV rays to the hands and nails, especially regularly, may increase the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers in those areas." Even the bottoms

Chelsea and Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo is set to join Turkish champions Besiktas , a close source has informed. According to a report on Vanguard, Omeruo and his representatives are expected to jet out from London this week to finalise his personal terms with Besiktas after both clubs agreed the switch. This comes even as Chelsea turned down a last-ditch offer from Celta Vigo for the 22-year-old. A close source to the player said: “Kenneth’s transfer to Besiktas is virtually completed with only the Turkish club to agree his personal terms and this will be sorted out this week when the player is there to do his medical. “There was a late bid for him by a Spanish club, Celta Vigo, but Chelsea didn’t consider it.” Besiktas developed interest in Omeruo after his sterling displays against them last season while featuring for Kasimpasa. Kasimpasa won the first game 1-0 at home, while the reverse fixture ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Kasimpasa, who are based in Istanbul li

Beware of fake men of God and their tactics - Anita Ebodaghe ( the estranged wife of Christ Embassy’s founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome)

Anita Ebodaghe , the estranged wife of Christ Embassy’s founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome , has talked about false prophets who in turn win souls falsely for God. Anita Ebodaghe In her blog article, Anita cautioned many to not be an instrument in the hands of these false prophets who sit down in a place of convinience but tell their members to toil day and night just to get new converts and also to get ‘God’s work’ done. Read the mind blowing blog article she titled “Soul Winning’ below: When people talk about winning souls these days, I feel absolutely concerned for the so-called souls. It looks to me like a lion on a breakfast mission, in search for his hunt; he hides behind the grass for an unwise lamb that would wander away from the herd in search of fresh grass. This will be an easy catch and good feast for the lion’s plate. When I hear these people talk about winning souls, I feel sorry for the souls who have no idea of what they are getting into. It sometimes sounds to me like
